Increase Confidence, how to increase confidence, confidence tips

Every week in 2012, I will be posting a simple, effective tip on how to increase confidence.   Trying just 1 tip every week will help your confidence levels to explode within a couple of months, so imagine what you could achieve if you commit to this for the whole year…

Week 1 – “Fake it to make it”.

You may have heard the phrase “Fake it to make it” or “Fake it until you make it”.

I’ve mentioned this briefly in previous posts and also my newsletter, but I just wanted to clarify what this means and more importantly, what it doesn’t mean, in terms of confidence building.

Faking it means smiling when you actually feel nervous, or holding your head high when you really feel like curling up into a ball so that nobody will see you.

This is about giving the appearance of confidence, and it does work.  Once you act confident, you will see that your fears weren’t real, so it starts to become easier and eventually you don’t have to ‘fake it’ anymore.

Faking it does NOT mean lying or pretending to know something that you don’t know, or pretending to be somebody you are not!

So in terms of being confident at work, do not bullshit your way through a business meeting pretending you know it all, because you will obviously be found out very quickly!  In terms of being confident in a social situation, don’t think that you need to be the life and soul of the party and entertain everyone there with your karaoke skills (unless you want to!!) because if this isn’t the real you and people see through the act, this will make you lose confidence.

This tip is about being the best YOU that you can be, not being somebody else.

Try it;  Whenever you feel nervous this week, try ‘faking it’.  Hold you head high and make your posture appear more confident.  Smile as if everything is OK.

That's a great idea!  Actually I will be doing a confidence workshop in April in my local area, so I was going to convert it to a teleclass, but I may convert it to video training instead.  Let me think about this  :)   Thanks for your comment
