how to be happy, happy, happiness, happy people, healing, depression, letting go, getting unstuck, negative thoughts, positive thoughtsDo you believe that to be happy there is a secret technique or that your life or circumstances must improve dramatically for it to happen?  Most people who are unhappy do believe this.

In fact, some people spend so long chasing or searching for the 'thing' that will make them happy, that if they ever did find the 'thing', they wouldn't recognise what it was because they have forgotten what they are searching for!

Searching for that 'something that will make us happy' could actually be your way of avoiding your inner blocks, negative emotions and past hurt and the one thing that this does is to stop us from being happy in the present moment, because we are always thinking that 'if I could just do this one thing, I will be happy'.

So if you have a couple minutes spare today, I would like you to try a little trick that will change your mindset and enable you to start being happy, right now.

Just think about the possibility of you being happy. Take a couple of minutes to close your eyes and visualise yourself being happy, laughing and feeling great.

The vision doesn't have to be complicated, and it shouldn't involve anyone else. Just you, smiling and being happy.

How did that feel? Visualisations are a very big part of my coaching practice techniques as they trick the mind into thinking that what we are 'seeing' is a reality. When you see yourself in your vision being happy, your mind now knows that it is possible! Keep doing the visualisations, they really do help.

Many things in life will hurt us or upset us, but the one thing that other people or situations (such as your job) cannot control, is your mind, but let's be clear about this – what happens in your mind is YOUR CHOICE.

So give yourself permission today to be happy. Know that it is possible. Know that it can be done. Negative thinking and negative thought patterns are simply a habit, when you start purposely thinking positive thoughts in place of the negative ones, you will soon see that only WE control our own minds, nobody else.

Granted, you may hate your job. You may indeed be having a bad hair day (I get them a lot!). You may have a bad relationship that you should have ended months ago or your children may be driving you to the edge.

But if you choose to focus on these negative things, you will NEVER be happy.

Focusing on the negatives in your life is the most surefire way to ensure UNhappiness. Because even if you have many reasons to be grateful and many reasons to be happy, if you are only thinking about the negatives, you are constantly showing your mind that your life is rubbish! No wonder you're unhappy.

That's not to say that you should totally ignore the negative aspects of your life, especially the ones that can be changed or rectified. But there is a huge difference between having the ambition to achieve changes or goals or just being unhappy with your lot. You can be happy now, and still work on changes or goals that you want to achieve.

Lets face it, being unhappy because you do not have the body of a supermodel or the riches of Donald Trump is only setting yourself up for unhappiness!

So what is the one thing that you can do to Be Happy?

I'm all about keeping things simple, easy and effective. There's no need to over complicate things or over analyse things. Just use your inner voice to tell yourself that you can be happy RIGHT NOW. That's it, that's the one thing that you need to do, just ALLOW yourself be happy right now.

Here are 3 great reasons why you should accept that you can be happy right now…

1) You have as much right as anyone else to be happy. We are all created equal, you are no better AND NO WORSE than anyone else.

2) You deserve to be happy. Despite what you have been telling yourself over the past few years.

3) You are capable of being happy – IF you let yourself.   You, and only you, can control your mind. If you feel like someone in your life is controlling your mind, it is because you are letting them. You have total control over your thoughts, so make them positive ones.

So the question shouldn't be 'How can I be happy', the question is 'will you let happiness in'?
